Cake and Coffee Pairings For Those Who Love to Entertain at Home

Just like fine wine and cheese, coffee and desserts make a great combo. We paired some made-to-order cakes with different coffee roasts and discovered some unexpected flavours.

A lamington cake is an Australian favourite. Bite-size squares of sponge cake are coated in an outer layer of chocolate and covered with desiccated coconut.

Coffee Pairing: Indian Thalanar Estate Espresso – With a hint of chocolate and almond taste, as well as slight rosemary aroma, this coffee really goes well with a slice (or two) of lamington cake.

Like the name suggests, this muffin is loaded with banana and almond. They are so moist and flavourful, perfect for breakfast or while you are stuck in morning traffic.

Coffee Pairing: Indonesia Bajawa Flores –  When brewed to perfection, you’ll get caramel like aroma, a balance taste of both bitter and sweetness with a little bit of nutty after taste. Just the right coffee to pair with the banana muffin.

A preferred choice of cake for the health conscious. With combination of sweetness from the shredded carrots and brown sugar, frosted with cream cheese and coated with crushed walnut, this carrot is to die for.

Coffee Pairing: Kenya Thiriku – You will get to enjoy the luscious taste of citrus and coffee in one cup. The clean after taste of nectarine and mango hanging around really blend well the cream cheese.

 

French Cheesecake

A dessert platter with variety of desserts with thick layer of cheese, chocolate ganache and loads of creamy sweets is haven for every dessert lover.

Coffee Pairing: Brazil Pedra Brance – Roasted to the right consistency, these Brazilian beans are loaded with hazelnut and chocolatey taste. End a good plate of desserts with this coffee will leave you with a perfect, crispy after taste.

A good old fashioned butter cake, baked to perfection. Sandwiched with fresh whipping cream and drizzled with lemon flavoured sugar as icing.

Coffee Pairing: Indonesia West Java Preanger Garut – Slightly different from the rest, the taste of this coffee is very citrusy. With a slight taste of orange juice and grape fruit, definitely this is the best pair for a butter cake with lemon drizzle.

Smooth, creamy and cheesy, balanced with the right amount of sugar, this Lemon Cheesecake is a perfect dessert for any function.

Coffee pairing: Papua New Guinea Purosa from The West Bean – With acidity of spice, and slight taste of vanilla and chocolate, hands down this delicate syrupy coffee is perfect to go with a slice of cheese cake.

The sweet, crunchy and chewy meringue base is balance out with fresh whipping cream and sweet-sour fruits like berries and kiwis. You can never go wrong with this trending dessert.

Coffee Pairing: Ethiopia Shakiso G1– A cup of this coffee contains a very intense feeling and a very distinctive floral and citrus taste. It will be a perfect pair for an extremely sweet meringue dessert.

 

Almond Gula Melaka Cheesecake

A new version for the classic cheese cake is created when it is topped with almond flakes and coconut, drizzled with gula Melaka syrup. When east meets west, the taste is so uniquely good.

Coffee pairing: Rwanda Ngoma – The medium roasted beans will bring about a very unique crisp citrus notes of a red bean. The sweet and clean after taste are perfect to be indulged with a slice of classic cheesecake. 

 

Salted Caramel Cake

The fluffy butter cake are topped with salted caramel sauce and layered with salted caramel buttercream. Never too much salted caramel for a salted caramel cake.

Coffee pairing: Honduras Pedro Erazo Espresso – Full of flavour, a cup of this espresso will give an ultimate satisfaction to the drinker with its sweetness-acidity balance and mouthfeel. Just the right pair for a salted caramel cake.
